Before you install Global MHS v2.0, there are some steps you need to complete first if you want a successful installation. In addition to reading the installation manual and the file README.TXT on disk 1 of the Global MHS installation disks, follow the procedures below before installing NetWare Global MHS. I. Versions of Dependent NLMs There are several NLMs that Global MHS depends on. These NLMs need to be the proper version. A. Btrieve Make sure you have Btrieve v6.0b (or later) loaded. Btrieve v6.0b is 146258 bytes, date 12-01-92. Btrieve v6.0b must be loaded with pagesize set, eg "load btrieve -p=4096". B. CLIB Make sure you have CLIB v3.11E (or later) loaded. CLIB v3.11E is 269642 bytes, date 02-03-93. C. PATCH311 Do not have PATCH311 loaded, either before, during, or after installation. PATCH311, 20823 bytes, date 07-29-91, contains fixes to an earlier version of CLIB. CLIB v3.11E has all the fixes that are in PATCH311, so PATCH311 is no longer needed functionally, and PATCH311 is incompatible with Global MHS. For those NLMs that are hardcoded to require a PATCH311 be loaded, Global MHS comes with a dummy PATCH311. This dummy PATCH311 is 798 bytes, date 09-16-92. D. Procedure for Dependent NLMs Before installing NetWare Global MHS, compare the files CLIB.NLM, BTRIEVE.NLM, and PATCH311.NLM in the SYS:\SYSTEM directory with the files CLIB.NLM, BTRIEVE.NLM, and PATCH311.NLM contained in \NGM\BIN on disk 2 of the Global MHS installation disks. (You may not have a copy of PATCH311.NLM; PATCH311.NLM may not exist in SYS:\SYSTEM.) If the files of the same name do not have the same size and date, for example if CLIB.NLM in SYS:\SYSTEM is 267068 bytes with date 12-16-92 and CLIB.NLM in \NGM\BIN is 269642 bytes with date 02-03-93, rename the file in SYS:\SYSTEM with an extension of .OLD and copy the file from \NGM\BIN into SYS:\SYSTEM. If there was no PATCH311.NLM in SYS:\SYSTEM, copy this file from \NGM\BIN into SYS:\SYSTEM. After these three files have been compared and copied, edit AUTOEXEC.NCF so BTRIEVE is loaded with a page size of 4096: load btrieve -p=4096 Down the server and bring it back up. Install Global MHS. Modify AUTOEXEC.NCF to include a search drive mapping for Global MHS: search add 1 \ngm\bin where is the path to your Global MHS installation. You may need to add the search drive mapping at the fileserver console prompt as well. Load NetWare Global MHS. II. Aborted Installations If anything goes wrong with your installation near the end, such that the Global MHS files were copied to the network drive but Global MHS isn't listed under "Product Options" in INSTALL.NLM, you need to delete those Global MHS files before starting your installation again. If this is a fresh installation, not an upgrade of MHS 1.5, you will need to delete the "\NGM" directory structure and the "\MHS" directory structure; the default location for these is the root of SYS:. In addition, you will need to check SYS:SYSTEM for any Global MHS files; delete any NGM*.* and any *.NGM files from SYS:SYSTEM. There are three ways to delete Global MHS files. If an entry exists for Global MHS in Product Options in INSTALL.NLM, highlight the entry for Global MHS and press . If no entry exists for Global MHS in Product Options, then do one of the following: 1) at the console prompt, type LOAD :\NGM\BIN\NGMDEINS, or 2) use FILER to delete the \NGM and \MHS directories. III. NFS NFS v1.1 is incompatible with CLIB v3.11E. If you have NFS v1.1, upgrade your NFS (the current shipping version is 1.2b). This is a cost upgrade (US$1500) due to the many new features and functions that have been added to NFS. Upgrading from NFS 1.2 to NFS 1.2b is a free upgrade. In addition, there are many fixes for NFS 1.1 bugs and crash problems that are included in NFS 1.2/1.2b. NFS 1.2 has been shipping for 18 months and NFS Support has been encouraging all NFS customers to upgrade to 1.2/1.2b. The NFS upgrade information is listed below.
